I was privileged to serve, for 7 years, in HM Royal Marines and when I was asked to support the Charity Luncheon in the City Of London again, as their Toastmaster, I jumped at it! The target for the Lunch, which was held in The Brewery, Chiswell St, was £100k. All the money was to go to the RMCTF. Working closely with the members of the Royal Marine’s Action Group based in London, over 350 people supported the event. Nick Bonham was the main auctioneer and it was an inspiration watching him at work; a few lessons were learnt!
Simon Bailey, one of the key organisers wrote the following:-
Chris this is a slightly late word of thanks for assisting at our Event last Friday, which all in all I think went pretty well. This was in no small part down to your quiet, professional and focused overall management of the event which I am very grateful for. The running order was kept to almost perfectly throughout and there was no sense of ‘pregnant pauses’ or things being rushed.
In total we raised £124k which is pretty good and RMAG is grateful to all the contributors. I know that RMCTF also are happy not only with the total sum but the type of people there, more corporates and not just ‘mates who lunch’!
Can I wish you every success with your activities.
It was a wonderful occasion and it was great catching up with some old friends, some of whom I hadn’t seen for over 30 years! As they say in the Corps, it was Hoofing!!!
